The American Dream

Hey everyone!

So this is my first ever post on my first ever blog site :)

Still don't fully understand the whole blogging thing but I'm sure it won't take me long to suss it all out!

So I set up this blog to keep everyone updated on what I've been up to and to hopefully get some fundraising help/ideas for my 'big apple' shaped adventure...

In April 2009 I was lucky enough to get called to audition for one of the world's best drama school's- The New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts.

The audition was tough and I later found out that they audition 5000 people worldwide, with only 180 places to offer!

So the odds were high and if I'm completely honest I was over the moon that they even wanted to see me.

After the audition I was told that it could take up to two weeks for me to find out if I'd got a place or not...TWO WEEKS!!

Those were the longest two weeks of my life.

On Saturday 9th May at 8.50 pm I got a call

(I had just finished working a long day as a make-up artist on Oxford Street, had been out the night before so was feeling generally tired/hungover/cranky and was on the slowest train back home)

There was an American voice on the other end of the phone and it took me a while to register who it was- it was Kathy the lovely lady who saw me audition.

I prepared myself for the worst, thinking it's ok I can audition next year, practising in my head my best 'I'm-not-a-sore-loser-thankful-that-you-even-gave-me-a-chance-to-audition' voice!

So I was in complete shock when she asked me how I would like to come live in New York studying on their two year acting for film and television course!! AMAZING!!

(And yes I did jump up and down on the train like a crazy woman!!)

So initially I was meant to start the first semester on 26th August 2009, which meant that I had roughly 3 months to try to get funding. This is where the bad news comes in...for me to study over there for two years will cost me- get ready for it- a grand total of roughly £60'000 or $100'000!!!!!

Suffice to say I didn't manage to get the money in time :(

BUT... I have been told that they will hold me a place for next year :)

(which in itself is amazing because drama schools never normally do this).

Ok so that's A LOT of money to raise in one year but where there's a will there's a way.

Realistically I just need to find 60'000 people who would be willing to lend me £1 each....

So this outlines my quest in pursuit of my American dream and my lifelong ambition of becoming an oscar winning actress (that's the ultimate dream!)

I'm hoping to organise some fun money raising events and if anyone has any suggestions of people who could help/ that I could write to/ or if you're just interested then drop me an email!

Not bad for my first post I think- although I'll try not to make it as long next time!!

  1. Hehe welcome to the blogging world! Tell you what, if you set up a paypal account specifically for the funds and do a weekly update on the funding situation not only will I donate your very first pound, but I will put a link up on my blogand website. As a thanks for being an awesome model for my degree (and the reason I am constantly asked who the 'hot girl' is in my artwork!) Good Luck! xx

  2. Hello. I found your blog through one of Tigz's tweets, and I gotta say, I really hope you make it – hope you're able to collect all that money so you can pursue your dreams. If you do set up a paypal account like Tigz said, I'd be more than happy to donate a pound myself...but since i live in the states, I guess it'll be like a dollar and change. Good Luck!
